    Filmmaking in Turkey

I believe that Turkey is a big country and it has many various specialties. And of course, I must mention that every region of this large zone has different characteristics. Turkish Culture is an outstanding distinctive culture. Depending on its past of thousands of years, it is a country that is wealthy of stories and many different themes.

As it can easily be understood due to the awards that has been gained in the international festivals; Turkish Film Making has began to raise its voice in the international field since the decade thanks to its experiences, international co-productions and qualified and experienced personnel.

The most effective thing, bringing us up to this point, is the fact that we have realized we have to think as they think and provide the same technical conditions they provide otherwise the Turkish Film Making cannot compete in the international field.

These values that Turkey possesses are also important for the World. Our country is a bridge combining the cultures of Asia and Europe. Therefore we are important for both geological and logistical, and also for political reasons.

If a foreigner team comes to Turkey for film making, it is possible for them to find anything they dream of. But unfortunately, our country has not been yet attractive to foreigners, because of ignorance. The 'Turkey Image' formed in their mind is: A country; with a political inconsistency, with hard conditions and difficult permissions, though having magnificent natural beauties, with technical impossibilities, with a lack of qualified personnel and with many similar negative things like that. Therefore they usually prefer making their films in Europe or in countries that take place close to Europe to reduce the cost of the films, instead of Turkey.

As for me, our country has to be introduced well, in order to attract foreign movie sector to Turkey. To show the work we have done and to explain well which things could be managed in our country is the way to it. Turkey is not behind Europe in technology, personnel or laboratory capacity; on the contrary, I insist that the technical personnel in our country are even more qualified than many of the personnel in Europe.

Turkey has also some other extra aspects as follows:

    1) It has an extraordinary lush flora. There are lots of places still untouched and very rarely used as visual images. It is one of the unique countries that you can live different seasons together at the same time.

    2) Manpower is qualified but cheap.

    3) Service sector is excellent.

Turkey should be a charming movie ground for the foreigners, to reproduce the visual beauties and also decrease the cost of the films. I recommend Turkey for film making, to every foreign producer I meet.
